New Patients
During your first appointment a thorough examination will be completed. This will include an examination of all the soft tissues of the mouth, the condition of the teeth and their restorations, and the health of the gums (which is the most critical part of your exam). More teeth are lost because of periodontal disease than because of decay. Also included is an oral cancer screening, a review of your medical and dental history, evaluation of the bite, and the condition of the jaw joints.
Because a complete series of x-rays is one of the most essential diagnostic tools, time will be set aside to complete these also. It is important to have diagnostic models of the teeth; therefore, if in your case these are necessary, impressions will be taken during this examination.
